Village
Camp is a community camp in which children of different ages come
together to learn to live in harmony with each other and nature.
Children participate with the staff in a daily routine of country living
chores such as animal and garden care, meal preparation and campfire
cooking. During the week children engage in a variety of outdoor crafts
and skills which are taught in a way that promotes unity and respect.
Some of these activities may include firebuilding, bowl-burning,
weaving, cordage and braiding with natural fibers, work with leather and
rawhide, beadwork, etc. During each session of Village Camp “Community
Projects” are offered, in which everybody works together to create and
complete a project which will enhance the community. Past projects have
included, constructing an Iroquois Long House and Designing and Building
an Outdoor Amphitheater and a Grass Thatched Hut, and constructing and
weaving with the 3 Bear Loom.
At Village Camp parents and family members of campers are welcome to
visit us and
join in whenever they can. Parents are required to supervise young
children visiting the camp at all times. On Thursday evenings, we have
a family celebration night and dinner. Campers and their families are
invited to camp out.
In addition to these activities, our August sessions of Village Camp
includes the Reading “Big Buddy Project” where older campers and younger
campers are matched as they participate in a variety of literacy
activities including writing, reading and telling stories written by the
children and staff. Village Camp has provided unique and rewarding
experiences of a lifetime for many children. We hope your children and
your family can join us this summer. Transportation and T-shirts are
available at an additional cost. Enrollment is limited.
